Fun Friday

Sunshine. Flowers. Fields. Peacefulness. Happy Moments. Laughter. So far Friday has been fabulouuuus! (The word fabulous always reminds me of Samantha from Sex and the City)

This morning I took Buster to a nearby field to roam free and he was so happy about it! The weather was perfect -a soft warm breeze with not a cloud in the sky. One of those August days that still feels like summer and you just wish you could bottle it up for a cold, dark winter day.

The day was so perfect it meant that I just had to go on a picnic! I met up with Tiltu when she got out of school and we went to Vartiovuori. And ate. And laughed. And laughed. And...well you get the picture.

We decided to head downtown and after a little while bumped into "none otha than ma mainnn maaan" Shabo! We all went to Halonen to find him a pair of winter boots (long story) without success. We did, however, find me a pair of clown shoes! And cheesus! (long story)

We gave up on finding winter boots and opted for sitting at a terrace sipping drinks and laughing.laughing.laughing.

I just finished eating now (and making everyone pizzas!) and now I'm going to get ready for a night of fun at Pikku-Torre with Helena, Jukka-Poika will be performing \o/

Beautiful Day

What a wonderful morning it is! I feel truely blessed. The sun is shining outside, the air is cool and crisp and I can sense the Autumn creeping in. The radiant red apples look magnificent against the clear blue sky. Speechless.

I was initially going to be working today for a pr- firm at an event , but because of my back problems I had to cancel. I have really started to listen to my body and my instincts more. So often I haven't given myself enough time to heal and rest. Job offers will come and go, but this is the body I will have with me for the rest of my life - and it deserves to be treated with respect.

So I've started the morning reading the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper, eating a delicious and nutritious breakfast and listening to the beautiful and breathtaking music of U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind album.

Breakfast Tip:
Mix together low fat quark, low fat buttermilk with lactid acid bacteria, wheat germ, rye bran, a chopped apple (mine was from our own tree) and a sliced banana to sweeten it up, because buttermilk and quark are quite sour. Substitute the fruit for berries or other fruits, add nuts or seeds and even a sprinkle of cinnamon. Packed with proteins, fibers, vitamins and minerals! Yumyum!

I haven't made any specific plans for the day yet. Which is how I've been living almost all summer. For so many years I lived with a full booked calendar and it has been amazing to let go of that. To decide each morning what it is exactly that I want to do. Freedom. For many years in high school I had a specific agenda for absolutely every aspect of my life. And that eventually led to malaise. We all need rules, structure, routines. But oh the joy of spontaneity. Never lose that.

And remember. No one can change their past, but we can all make a new beginning today and make the rest of the journey whatever we want. It's not about the destination, but the journey.

Numero Uno

So this is it! Tadaa! My very own blog. And the very first entry. I've been meaning to begin blogging for quite a while now, but like with many things, it seems like the right time never comes. But today was the day that I decided to quit procrastinating, thanks to my personal blog assistant (aka my style assistant, photographer, best friend, lovely little sister Maria).

I sat down with the expert Maria to create the blog "fast and easy", eh? Answering the easy questions was more difficult than I had thought, though... Sure, I came up with some answers so we could get things started, but I seem to be left with even more questions: What sort of blog will this be? What do I want to call it? What language do I want to write in? I was juggling back and forth between Finnish and English. I came up with a Finnish name, but quickly wanted to revert back into English. And now having started in English I'm once again questioning my choice of language. Is it more natural for me to write in English or Finnish? I can't decide. Because I usually mix them together. So it just might be that after this first entry I'm going to continue in Finnish. For one its my mother tongue, and secondly its quite a shame that the English language dominates this world as it is...maybe I should be an exception?

As for what this blog will be about... For now I'm just wanting to write about all aspects of life, about me and my days, about situations and people I encounter, travels, studies, politics, cooking... I'm going to let the blog sort of find its path on its own and not force it to be anything specific. A little bit of this and a little bit of that. After all, it is a big fruit salad, a cocktail I call my life.
